Leave a Comment more...Silent Disco Coming Soon To HQ
by HQ Admin on Mar.08, 2010, under HQ Nightclub, Latest News
Silent Disco is a disco party without the traditional speaker system, instead relying on the use of wireless headphones and an FM transmitter to deliver the music to participants. Those without the headphones hear no music, giving the effect of a room full of people dancing to no music.
Silent Disco was born in the summer of 2002 when two friends organised a secret party on the campsite of the Dutch Theatre Festival Parade. Apart from the people that joined them, nobody knew, as the party people were all wearing wireless headphones.
Silent Disco soon became a hit in The Netherlands and Belgium, soon followed by France. But it didn’t stop there.
In 2005 Glastonbury Festival hosted the UK premiere of Silent Disco and very soon, valued patrons at HQ nightclub here in Thurles can experience at first hand for the first time, this unbelievable music sensation.
Silent Disco is the biggest and most unusual music sensation to hit any nightclub. Internationally, it has successfully managed to electrify music fans with mixes of dance, hard house, punk, disco, salsa, early swing from the twenties, alternative, world, electro, hardstyle, gabber and Dixieland.

Leave a Comment more...No Immediate Plans To Marry – Una Healy
by HQ Admin on Feb.12, 2010, under HQ Nightclub
The Saturdays star Una Healy rubbished reports that she is due to walk down the aisle here in Thurles this year.
The Thurles beauty, native and regular patron at HQ was at the London premiere of Clint Eastwood’s new movie Invictus recently with her rugby star beau Ben Foden.
The couple mingled with Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman at the screening, but denied any immediate wedding plans.
“I saw that an Irish bookmaker was taking bets about us getting engaged but imagine how cringe-worthy that would be if we went ahead and did it because of a bet?,” said the lovely Una
“We’ll do it in our own time and we’re happy with where we are. Hopefully, I’ll always feel this way about him but you just have to take each day as it comes.
“We’ve just bought a lovely house together — things are going great.”
Ben Foden is one of the star players on English side Northampton and she admits that it made for a sticky situation recently when his team took on Munster in a Heineken Cup clash.
Ben is also expected to be picked to play for the England squad, which means he may well be lining out against Brian O’Driscoll and the boys in green in the next international game at Twickenham on February 27.

On Thur 21st January – Yes its a Students Night Extravaganza with Long Necks and Shots just €3, together with a return of the Lucky Dip and Lucky Shot.

On Sat 23rd January its DJ Aiden Mac back again spinning your favourite dance sounds and keeping you up late with all that’s popular in current music.
Your band on this Saturday night is “The Kilkennys “ making a welcome first visit to HQ.
The Kilkennys are a 4-piece traditional Irish ballad group, who have been entertaining audiences all over the country, and internationally for the past ten years, with their unique and accomplished style of playing and vocal talent.
Known as one of the hardest working bands in Ireland, they perform the length and breath of the country up to five nights a week. Up to now, they have been performing as Uisce Beatha, but due to various crucial reasons and the fact that a few bands with the same name have sprung up around the world, the decision was taken to change the name to The Kilkennys, as the boys are very proud of their black and amber roots!
This name change coincided with the band signing up to Dolphin Records, the record company of such Irish music legends as Mary and Frances Black, Liam Clancy, Dolores Keane, Ronnie Drew, Jack L and Sonny Knowles. The band was originally formed by Dave Cashin, Adam Cashin and Tommy Mackey, while at school in St. Kierans College in Kilkenny. Robbie Campion would later come on board to complete the bands unique vocal and musical sound.
The Kilkennys have shared the stage with some of the country’s most prominent folk icons, including Shane McGowan, Finbarr Furey and the late Ronnie Drew. They have also toured Scotland, Germany and the US on a number of occasions to great acclaim. Now with the forthcoming release of their debut album and live DVD, audiences will be enthralled by the energy, passion and musical talents of The Kilkennys.
On Sun 24th January its the Late Night Disco Bar with HQ’s Resident DJ bringing you a magical 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music night with Free Admission to all patrons.
Do not forget to VOTE -VOTE -VOTE for HQ’s No 1 Patron, Michelle Skehan, who will be giving it her all, earlier in the evening, on the All Ireland Talent Show, @ 6.30pm on RTE1. Best of luck from all in HQ Michelle.
